An event planner can make or break your wedding

It’s okay to fall in love with a venue, but make sure you’re in love with the event planner, too. You could have the loveliest venue with optimal weather, but if your event planner is anything but a planner, your perfect day could become anything but.

The best way to avoid a wedding day nightmare is to make sure that you and your planner are on the same page from day one. Remember, it’s your wedding. Are they invested in crafting the perfect ceremony that you have in mind? Does the timeline make sense? If you’re not okay with certain aspects of the schedule, speak up now (or forever hold your peace), because the last thing you want is just 20 minutes for family photos.

“I love creating this vision with people and then bringing it to life for them,” said Breanna Lingerfelt, Grandview’s event specialist. “For some people it is the most important day for them, so it's very important for me to make sure it goes well.”

Something else to ponder is the planner’s knowledge of the venue itself. You’d prefer they know it like the back of their hand. The longer they’ve worked with a particular venue, (usually) the better.

“I have the upper hand because I know everything about Grandview, what works best and where everything is,” Lingerfelt said.

It also gives you peace of mind knowing that your planner will be with you the entire day – before, during and after the ceremony. Lingerfelt’s goal is to make it all look effortless.

“I am there an hour before you arrive, and I'm there an hour after you leave.” Lingerfelt said. “I will make sure that your setup is right, that all the doors are unlocked, the lights are on, and that everything is good when you arrive. And while you're getting ready, I'm setting up linens, decorating and tucking away cords, just making all the small touches so that you can enjoy the entire day.”
